There are many families (genus) of meat eating plants in Canada and the United States.

From the flypaper butterworts (Pinguicula), sticky "octopus" tentacled sundews (Drosera), tube shaped pitcher plants (Sarracenia and Darlingtonia), to my favourite... the amazing Flytrap (Dionaea). I love capturing these beasts out in the wild with my camera. And best of all, they grow and thrive here on the Westcoast of Canada (we get fairly mild winters out here on the Island...and wait until I tell you about the Killer Whales). My favourites are the pitcher plants and the flytraps. I enjoy them all, it's just that it's more fun to grow those beauties who require minimal care and attention from a tired old guy like me.

But this subsection is dedicated to photos of plants growing in a natural habitat.  Here as noted, are some photos kindly shared by Bob Hanrahan of plants at his private bog in Alabama.  I first corresponded with Bob back in the late 1970's and early 80's when he operated the wonderful CP nursery and mail-order company - World Insectivorous Plants (WIP).  I'll upload some more photos once I get that new fancy slide scanner so I could share my old collection of images with you all.

* = Sarracenia purpurea subsp. venosa var. burkii f. luteola is now known as Sarracenia rosea f. luteola, and Bob states:
" Luteola's are still very rare in the field and only a couple have ever been found.  One in Florida and the other on my Plantation. they have been propagated and distributed to the CPN network.  I have a number of plants on my place in various locations. "
